Root Shoot Whiskey Named American Single Malt Whiskey of the Year at London Spirits International Competition

Award-winning Root Shoot Whiskey begins with malt sown, grown and malted on Root Shoot Malting’s 5th generation Olander family farm

Loveland, Colo., May 6, 2025 – Root Shoot Spirits’ American Single Malt Whiskey (50% ABV) was named American Single Malt Whiskey of the Year at the London Spirits Competition! 

The honor marks the sixth medal for Root Shoot Whiskey, which is bottled-in-bond, aged 4 years in American White oak barrels, and made from 100% Colorado-grown grain.

The prestigious international London Spirits Competition evaluates spirits on the factors that matter most to consumers, including quality, value and aesthetics. Several thousand entries were submitted from 30 countries in 2025, and Root Shoot Spirits’ American Single Malt Whiskey was named American Single Malt Whiskey of the Year by a panel of over 70 esteemed industry professionals.

Root Shoot Whiskey is distilled just a few miles from where the raw materials were sown, grown and malted on Olander Farms, Root Shoot Malting’s 5th generation family farm. The result is a uniquely hyper-local, sustainable supply-chain journey of only about 30 miles from field to bottle. 

The raw material for Root Shoot Whiskey, Root Shoot Malting’s handcrafted malt, is available to brewers and distillers nationwide, and has also been repeatedly awarded. Root Shoot Malting has earned 15 major awards since 2019, including: 

Genie Pale Malt: won gold and Best in Show in 2019, bronze in 2021, silver in 2023 and bronze in 2024 at the Craft Maltsters Guild Malt Cup

Munich 10 Malt: won bronze in 2020, gold in 2023, gold in 2024 and silver in 2025 at the Craft Maltsters Guild Malt Cup.
