Lyon's Spirit Hound Distillers will release its Bottled in Bond Straight Malt Whisky this Wednesday, just in time for Thanksgiving and the holiday season.
The release party is Wed. Nov 23 at Spirit Hound’s Lyons, Colo., tasting room.

The release party will include a pre-Thanksgiving Game Night and a socially-distant rendition of the popular card game Cards Against Humanity. Specialty hand-crafted cocktails imagined by Amanda Engelhorn, Spirit Hound’s tasting room manager and resident mixologist, will also be available.

Bottled In Bond
“Bottled in bond” is a designation of whisky that has been aged at least 4 years, has not been altered by any means other than filtration, is exactly 100 proof (50% ABV), and is produced by one distillery in their facility. It is a mark of trust for customers so they knew they were buying a product made directly by the distiller.
“In the late 1800s there were people making whisky with dangerous ingredients, like tobacco juice, to make it brown. So over 125 years ago, Colonel E.H. Taylor made the first Consumer Protection Act in US history - the Bottled in Bond Act,” says Craig Englehorn, co-owner and head distiller of Spirit Hound Distillers. "The rules are simple. The whisky must have no additives, be aged for at least 4 years, come in at exactly 100 proof, and be distilled and bottled by the same distiller at federally bonded warehouse. That used to mean there was an armed guard protecting the whisky, but today we are supervised by the government through software and reporting.”
