MINNEAPOLIS, MN, March 12, 2025: Indeed Brewing Company is excited to announce the music lineup, food vendors, and artist-collaborators for Whirlygig 2025: a music, beer, and art festival on May 16-18. The weekend-long event takes place in conjunction with Art-A-Whirl, an annual artist studio tour throughout Northeast Minneapolis.
For the second year in a row, Eli Awada took the lead to book the music lineup. Eli is a renowned pianist in local jazz group Room3, recent U of M grad and DJ on Radio K, and a genuine music-lover with a sharp instinct for how to sonically build the party of the year. Indeed Brewing’s chief business officer, Ryan Bandy, said of Mr. Awada, “He’s also the nicest person that exists. We’re lucky to continue working with him and are ecstatic for the lineup this year.”
Once again, Awada has put together an eclectic lineup showcasing some of the best players from the Twin Cities. The party kicks off on Friday with the gospel-inspired tunes of Gifted Handz, futuristic R&B from Barlow, and the genre-bending Thomas Abban, who Bandy said, “might be in the french dictionary for je ne sais quoi”. Early Eyes will close night one with their high-spirited and fun hyperpop. The talents of all their players combine for a great show and dances all over different genres and sounds.
Saturday is a ‘scorcher from the jump’ as Bandy calls it. To highlight a few, Anita Velveeta is a terrific punk rock band and Lighter Co. is another can’t miss rock and roll act. Juice Lord is bringing his St. Paul hip-hop to Minneapolis and Obi Original is a pure performer with a great band.
“If you haven’t seen Dylan Salfer play guitar, you haven’t lived,” said Bandy about the penultimate performance of day two. He also said he was honored to welcome Black Market Brass back to the stage for the first time in many years. The Saturday headliner puts on an incredible show of what they call ‘afropysch’. Weird rhythms, full horns and percussion, and bass lines will force you to dance.
Bandy is thrilled to get Javier Santiago to headline Sunday afternoon. Bandy and Awada have focused on creative and wide-ranging jazz for the Sunday lineup the past several years, and that continues with Santiago. His songwriting, piano playing, incredible band, and genre-pushing music are a must-see live performance. Leading up to that, Aby Wolf and Kabyesh Kaviraj are true veterans of the scene that have been collaborating to make some really special music and Salty Dog brings funk improvisation down from Duluth to keep the party going.
Bandy summarized the final day of the festival by saying, “Sundays at Whirlygig tend to feel really special and this one is shaping up to be the same.”
FRIDAY, MAY 16 (3-11pm)
SATURDAY, MAY 17 (11am-11pm)
SUNDAY, MAY 19 (11am-10pm)
In addition to a weekend full of music, there will be L.S.D (the beer!), Brightside Sea Salt & Lemon Lager, Flavorwave IPA and lots more beer along with a selection of great food. Returning favorites like Red Cow and KCM Eggrolls will be joined by some newcomers: Wisconsin-based Chef Shack and local legend Pizzeria Lola.
Longtime collaborator Chuck U will be live painting, Cool Trash will be returning this year, and Outta Wax will be joining the party with live lathe cutting and record pressing. Flavor Market, brought to you by the energetic Flavor World art collective, will again occupy the Quincy Station lot on the corner of 14th and Quincy. “I think they are some of the most creative, relentless, positive, and important people making stuff in Minneapolis,” says Bandy. “We’re very lucky to work with them on different events” – the 3rd annual ‘Flavor Fest’ is at Indeed on August 9th – “and Drew is one of a kind, and with his myriad collaborators.” The Flavor Market will feature over 18 local artist vendors, an engaging Flavor World pop-up experience, games, music, drinks, and more.
Entry to this event is free and open to all ages (must be 21+ to drink beer and THC beverages). Whirlygig will be held rain or shine. The event is cash only, both inside and outside, with ATMs on-site. Pre-sale drink tickets will be available for purchase online, at a discount, leading up to the event. You can see those options and purchase them HERE.
Whirlygig coincides with Art-a-Whirl presented by NEMAA, the largest open studio tour in the country. There will be artwork from nearly 1,000 artists in every medium at more than 60 locations, including the Solar Arts Building. Indeed is lucky to share Solar Arts with some seriously talented creatives whose studios will be open to Art-a-Whirlers on the second and third floor.
