Maui wildfire relief

Maui, Hawaii (Dec. 20, 2023) – In an effort to raise awareness and relief funds for the people of Maui following the devastating wildfires this August, more than 700 breweries across the United States and internationally have joined The Kōkua Project, pledging to brew Kōkua IPA and donate the proceeds to Maui’s ongoing recovery efforts.

Kōkua, translated as “extending help to others” in the Hawaiian language, is coordinated by Maui Brewing Company and inspired by Sierra Nevada’s Resilience project of 2018. Maui Brewing reports that the international brewing community has raised more than $1,650,000 to support communities in Maui through The Kōkua Project since August 2023.

“From New Zealand to Japan and every US state in between, the brewing community has come together in a powerful and humbling way to support the people of Maui,” said Maui Brewing Company spokesperson. “As one beer, brewed by many, Kōkua supports our Maui ‘Ohana who have been affected by the tragic wildfires. We are grateful to every brewery who has participated this year.”

Kōkua is a Session IPA that delivers a refreshing wave of tropical hop aroma atop a delicate malt base. Proceeds from Kōkua are facilitated by the Maui Brewing Company Fire Fund and donated to the nonprofit Global Empowerment Mission and its ongoing efforts to rebuild and support the people of Maui.

The Maui Brewing Company team and Founder and CEO Garrett Marrero have been providing ongoing support to Maui, also facilitating supply missions, collecting vital items for the survivors and delivering emergency drinking water to communities affected by the wildfires in August and July 2023.
